Understand the Cunning Mind

Have you ever thought about the thoughts those encounter your mind day and night? Whether you are awakened or sleeping, thoughts strike your mind. In these, there are many thoughts you have ever imagined about. Many at times, during meditation, concentration, studying, driving or doing any activities, while we try to focus upon our existing task, mind hover here and there. Off late we realize we have been deviated from the main task. We bring the focus back. Again, within no span of time it starts deviating. The most unfortunate part is, when any thought strikes our mind, we start flowing with the thought at least for some time, till another thought strikes our mind. The mind never thinks to stop for a while.

Let's understand with an example. You went for shopping. You saw two shirts-one green and one blue. You decided to buy the blue one as it is your favorite color and is within the budget. Moment, you pick up the shirt and go to the counter to pay the bill, your mind starts confusing with unwanted justifications. Now you started thinking perhaps the green is better one. Still time is there to decide. Ok, you pay the bill and get out of the shop. But you did not stop thinking about the green one. You do not appreciate the blue one which you are having. But think about that which is not there. Even after you reach home, you are confused. Have you ever thought of it? Why is it happening so? What is the way out?

The right answer is the decision has been taken for you but not by you. Assume your friend asks same thing to choose one between same two shirts. You give firm decision with justification for one leaving the other behind.  Reason being you have not been attached with that shirt. You are not going to wear that shirt. Hence, suggesting is very easy. Same thing can happen with you too if you become the witness to the event rather getting involved with the event. Assume you have to give this opinion for your friend; you have good justification. Just go with it. You will realize mind is not trapping you further.

It is our daily routine. We plan something, just before execution of plan, emotion starts curbing us. The decision which has been taken after so much study, putting so many efforts and burning the mid night lamp to reach to the conclusion has been influenced by our just arisen emotion. The moot point is about emotion. Most of our decisions go wrong due to airing onto emotions. Of late we realize the decision taken was correct, but we could not implement it timely. Emotion took the front seat and changed the whole scenario. For the time being we became a dupe as if we know nothing.

Now what to do? Witness yourself rather get involved completely. If you are not able to dissociate from the emotions, the best way is to meditate for some time before and after taking decision so as to take right decision in time and implement it without any hindrance.

There are various types of meditations to overcome this.
