What is the greatest hindrance in Meditation - The Memory.

We all are aware that to motto of meditation is to reach to the thoughtless level.  We are also aware that it is very difficult to keep the mind without thought. When we try to suppress or reject one thought, another thought takes place. The another big problem is, if a thought is suppressed it is sure that some day that thought will come out like a rising sun. But if a thought is rejected or let go it will never hit us again. Especially, when a thought is uninvited, it will never try to either dwell or shelter in our mind. The root cause of thought is our past activities. Our past activities create memory in our mind. Gradually the memories hit our mind in due course of time.

One way we are trying to vacate our mind. Other way we are indulged in such activities which is prone to create number of thoughts. Then the process of meditation will be simply a wastage of time only. It is as if we have planned to clean a water tank from inside; kept the outflow of water on but never thought of inflow of water. With this process we never find tank empty to clean it. Because we are not stopping the inflow of water.

On daily basis we are creating so many memories indulging in many activities that to forcefully merely because we are sitting ideal. We forget that the memories of these activities will become a great hindrance moment we try to sit calmly to meditate. The best method to avoid this is it is better to be ideal rather indulging into in unwanted activities. Further, we must make ourselves available for those which is totally unavoidable. Remember, more the activities, more are the memories. Sometime, one activity and many memories. It is very easy to create memory but very difficult to forget these.
